Gifts to food pantries, nonprofits part of end-of-year giving effort, ongoing grant making
MADISON, Wis. – January 3, 2014 – Several nonprofits received donations totaling $3,550 from Alliant Energy as part of its year-end giving campaign, while others received close to $35,000 from the Alliant Energy Foundation as part of its grant-making process.
Alliant Energy also contributed a little extra holiday cheer to more than 125 food pantries and human needs organizations across its service area. Food pantries in Belleville, Blue Mounds, Cambridge, Cottage Grove, DeForest, Deerfield, McFarland, Mount Horeb, Oregon, Stoughton, Verona and Windsor received donations.
At the same time, the Alliant Energy Foundation has contributed an additional $35,000 to local nonprofits to support community development efforts as part of its regular grant-making cycle.
Boys and Girls Club of Dane County received $5,000 for its college readiness efforts to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds prepare for high school and college success.
Wisconsin FFA Foundation received $5,000 to provide leadership conferences and other opportunities in agricultural education to FFA student members and their communities.
Benedictine Life Foundation received $5,000 for its prairie and savannah restoration efforts near the Holy Wisdom Monastery.
Wisconsin Historical Foundation received $2,500 for its National History Day in Wisconsin, which fosters historical research and presentation development skills in students in grades 6 to 12.
Other nonprofits receiving Foundation funding include Festival Choir, East Madison Community Center, Sand County Foundation, League of Women Voters of Dane County, Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Badgerland, Wisconsin Environmental Education Foundation, Kanopy Dance Theatre, Goodman Community Center, Madison Civics Club, Madison-area Urban Ministry and Nuestro Mundo.
These grants were part of the Alliant Energy Foundation’s Community Grants Program, which has awarded more than $240,000 in grants during its third-of-three grant cycles in 2013, bringing this year’s total to nearly $1,000,000 provided to more than 458 non-profit organizations.
