State ginseng board signs agreement with Chinese company

Gov. Scott Walker’s trade mission in China is continuing this week with the announcement of a trade agreement renewal between Wisconsin ginseng producers and a Chinese medical company.

Tong Ren Tang signed a 10-year agreement with the Ginseng Board of Wisconsin to pay for their trademark seal, which denotes that the products sold by the company in China are true Wisconsin products. The agreement is expected to bring in $200 million in sales for the state’s Ginseng producers and extends a prior agreement from 2009.

Walker — who is in China with officials from WEDC, DATCP and several Wisconsin companies — is expected to also attend the U.S.-China Governor’s forum, a Wisconsin Water forum and several other business meetings.

Participating companies include Oshkosh Corp., Ashley Furniture, Harley-Davidson, Badger State Ethanol and Greenheck Fan Corp.
