A weekend of beautiful and creative handcrafted pottery awaits visitors at the Superior Shore Pottery Tour on Saturday and Sunday, September 22 and 23.

Pottery by Deanna Eckels and Pete SkoroThe Superior Shore Pottery Tour is a celebration of the South Shore’s incredible concentration of talented potters showcased against the breathtaking backdrop of Bayfield in autumn. Six potters will be featured at their studios from 10am to 6pm where they will demonstrate a range of techniques from hand building, architectural slab styles, hand thrown and one-of-a-kind pieces in stoneware and porcelain. This is a tremendous opportunity to meet the artisans, tour their studios, and view and purchase pottery “from the source.”

“The driving tour (and ride on Madeline Island Ferry Line, which is offering a free ride back with any passenger purchase) strategically takes place at peak fall colors,” Dede Eckels says. She continues, “This is a wonderful way to get out for the fall color and tour six unique pottery studios in the Northwoods.” Dede and husband, Peter Skoro, organized the tour last year and the success prompted the potters to make it an annual event.

Bayfield’s Superior Shore Pottery TourThe studios on tour are located from outside of Washburn to Bayfield and Madeline Island. All are within 20 miles of each other. To see a complete list of participating studios, you can find tour information at Superiortour.org or contact Eckels Pottery at (715) 779-5617 or email eckelspottery@charter.net.
