MILWAUKEE, WI – (April 2011) Join Historic Milwaukee, Inc. (HMI) from 5-9:30 pm on Saturday, May 14th to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of their annual Spaces & Traces neighborhood open house event with a Historic Taverns of Riverwest Crawl. In honor of this year’s Spaces & Traces event happening May 21st, 2011 in Riverwest, HMI invites our members, Riverwesters, history, and beer lovers alike to taste the heritage of this eclectic and fascinating neighborhood.
HMI’s Historic Taverns of Riverwest Crawl will highlight seven historic Riverwest taverns, each featuring a unique historical display constructed by HMI researchers. There will be hourly “barrel-roll” tours led by Lakefront Brewery co-founder Jim Klisch, reenacting the sale of the very first barrels of Lakefront beer to Riverwest taverns. At 6:30 pm, walking tours offered by Historic Milwaukee guides will lead groups through the neighborhood, giving a vivid history of the area and pointing out several historic points of interest. Stonefly Brewery will also open its doors at points throughout the evening to give an exclusive look at their brewing process.
And, of course, no Tavern Crawl would be complete without drinks and music. Each of our Crawl stops will be featuring drink specials and free Lakefront samples. Selected stops will also feature live music by Riverwest-based performers.
At 7 pm, all are invited to join us at Stonefly Brewery (735 E Clarke) for a ceremony to honor 30 years of Spaces & Traces. A champagne toast to our devoted volunteers will follow, as well as cake and hors d’oeuvres. The first 300 guests will receive a free commemorative Spaces & Traces 30th Anniversary pint glass, courtesy of Lakefront Brewery.
So, raise a glass and spend an evening with us, learning about Riverwest and celebrating 30 years of Spaces & Traces!
