— The state’s 10 regional Workforce Development Boards are getting $4 million in federal aid to help retrain recently unemployed workers.

The assistance will benefit more than 4,900 workers affected by layoffs at more than 100 companies across Wisconsin, including Harley-Davidson, Midwest Airlines, Rockwell Automation, Mercury Marine, Appleton Paper, Oshkosh B’Gosh and many others.

— Harley-Davidson has filed notice with the state of 398 layoffs at its Wauwatosa location.

— Clothing store Lands’ End is working with the charity Soles4Souls to invite customers to donate new or gently used footwear for people in need.

Lands’ End stores in Wisconsin will be collecting shoes of all types and sizes throughout the month of August.

Soles4Souls has provided more than five million pairs of shoes to people in need, including after national and international disasters such as the Asian Tsunami and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
