— A slogan that was unveiled in March as the new brand for the state’s tourism effort is absent from a new ad that started this month. The “Live Like You Mean It” slogan drew criticism after it was introduced because the same line had been used by the liquor company Bacardi. A Department of Tourism spokeswoman said it was a “creative decision” not to use the slogan or logo. She said the department wanted to focus on its travelwisconsin-dot-com Web site. — Gov. Jim Doyle has declared today “Stem Cell Awareness Day” in Wisconsin. Ed Fallone, the president of the advocacy group Wisconsin Stem Cell Now, praised the proclamation but says there’s still more to be done to promote stem cell research. He says medical research in the field is still greatly underfunded, and that the recession and the federal budget deficit have limited the available funding. — The state Legislature has passed a bill to require manufacturers of electronic products to arrange for recycling of their products. The bill would make it illegal to dump products like TVs and computers that contain toxic chemicals in landfills. Johnson for its family park and 16-day paid winter break.
