— A new poll released by the Forest County Potawatomi finds 70 percent of Wisconsin voters support the state taking its own steps to control greenhouse gas emissions.

The poll also found that two-thirds of Wisconsin voters favor a requirement that utilities use renewable sources to generate 25 percent of their electricity by 2025.

The poll of 600 likely general election voters was conducted Sept. 1-4 by the Mellman Group Inc. It had a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

— That’s a contrast with yesterday’s poll from WMC, which found 62 percent of voters saying they believe global warming is not Wisconsin’s problem to solve.

— WMC has announced nominations are now being accepted for the 22nd Annual Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year awards.

Due to harsh economic conditions many manufacturers are experiencing this year, MOTY judges will consider various industry benchmarks in addition to three years of financial information provided as part of the nomination process.

Nominations must be received by Dec. 1.

— Three state instututions are getting $8 million from the National Institutes of Health to establish a new center for genetic research.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Medical College of Wisconsin and Marquette University will work together on the project.

Researchers will look into tools to help analyze proteins that bind to DNA, which could lead to a better understanding of how genes work.
