— Wisconsin Ford dealers in Madison Monday got to test drive the new Ford Taurus, a new version of the popular family sedan with a few Wisconsin connections.

UAW workers at the 130th Street and Torrence Avenue assembly plant in Chicago will produce the car using a variety of Wisconsin fasteners from Miniature Precision Components in Walworth, Polymer Technologies in Whitewater and ITW Deltar in Chippewa Falls. Northern Engraving in La Crosse produced engraved nameplates for the new Taurus, and American Metal Technologies in Sturtevant, Wis, produced specialty metal components for the once-abandoned model that Ford has resurrected in a stylish new design.

— Hundreds rallied outside Milwaukee City Hall then packed a Common Council committee room to urge aldermen to formally oppose exploration of privatizing the city’s water works.

The city had considered hiring a consultant to study a possible 75-to 99-year lease of the Milwaukee Water Works in order to generate money to fill a city budget gap, projected to be as high as $90 million for 2010.

Speakers representing the Keep Public Our Water marched through City Hall and into the meeting of the Steering and Rules Committee, in which aldermen voted to defer a study on privatization.
