The city had considered hiring a consultant to study a possible 75-to 99-year lease of the Milwaukee Water Works in order to generate money to fill a city budget gap, projected to be as high as $90 million for 2010. Speakers representing the Keep Public Our Water marched through City Hall and into the meeting of the Steering and Rules Committee, in which aldermen voted to defer a study on privatization.
