The plan would increase grants available through the Accelerate Wisconsin program from $5.5 million to $8.5 million next year. It would also add $1 million to the Wisconsin Development Fund and pump more funding into job training programs. The bill would also fund a position that would help businesses navigate the state’s permitting and approval process. But the state agriculture department says companies can tap into international markets with cost-sharing from the Food Export Association of the Midwest. That group has a program to reimburse small companies for up to half of promotional expenses like tradeshow fees, brochures, advertising, and label changes. This year 22 state companies received a total of nearly $1 million in reimbursements and registration is now open for next year. Papermaker Appleton posts net income of $31 million: Papermaker Appleton recorded net income of $31.4 million in the third quarter on net sales of $222.3 million, compared with a net loss of slightly more than $30 million in the comparable quarter a year ago, the company reported. United adding Chicago-Eau Claire flights: United Airlines of Chicago said Monday that it will launch regional jet service from Chicago to Eau Claire and three other destinations beginning in early 2010.
