— Three Milwaukee-area universities are teaming up to create a national center for energy research. It’s the first time the the colleges of engineering at UW-Milwaukee, Marquette University and Milwaukee School of Engineering have collaborated on a major initiative. Seven projects are already underway at the new Southeastern Wisconsin Energy Technology Research Center thanks to $200,000 dollars in federal funding and $500,000 from regional industries and foundations. Harley-Davidson to enter India market in 2010: After years of trying to seek entry into the world’s second-largest motorcycle market, Harley-Davidson Inc. announced Thursday that it plans to formally begin sales in India in 2010. State unemployment at 8.7% in July: The state Department of Workforce Development reported Wednesday that Beloit still leads the state with 17.6 percent unemployment in July. That was down from 18.6 the previous month, but far higher than a year ago when it was just 8.3 percent. Governor Doyle to Lead Trade Mission to Israel: Governor Jim Doyle announced that he will lead a trade mission to Israel this fall to provide participants with opportunities to meet with distributors, potential customers, and key business and government officials. He will also promote investment by Israeli companies in Wisconsin during the visit. Mercury Marine union explores re-vote in Fond du Lac: The union at Mercury Marine that rejected some wage and benefit concessions is researching whether a second vote is possible.
