HOUGHTON MI -Upper Peninsula Power Company has scheduled public presentations at four locations to discuss its Shoreline Management Plans (SMPs) for five hydroelectric projects (involving six reservoirs).
The Shoreline Management Plans are now available for review on UPPCO’s Web site: www.uppco.com/info/landsale.asp
At the meetings and through April 21, 2007, UPPCO will accept written comments on the proposed plans, which were developed using data from environmental studies and meetings with the public, focus groups, and numerous governmental agencies. Comments submitted during that period will be addressed in UPPCO’s proposal to FERC.
“Comments on the SMPs will become part of the FERC process and therefore must be written and specific for the sake of accuracy,” said Shawn Puzen, Environmental Consultant.
Following the presentations, there will be time for questions about the plans. Questions will be solicited on cards, and any not answered in the time allotted will be answered as part of the response to comments in the final SMP submitted to FERC. UPPCO will accept written comment at any of the public meetings or by mail by April 21 to:
