Statement of Charlie Higley, Executive Director

Governor Jim Doyle made a strong decision in appointing Daniel Ebert chair of the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. As executive assistant to outgoing Chairperson Burnie Bridge, Ebert has gained a thorough understanding of the energy and telecommunication challenges facing Wisconsin.

The Citizens Utility Board and its members are hoping that Ebert will continue the leadership shown by Bridge on increasing the use of energy efficiency and renewable energy to meet our state’s energy needs; improving the state’s energy planning process; reducing outrageously high utility profits; and preventing the re-monopolization of telephone service by SBC.

We look forward to working with Ebert and his colleagues on the many important energy and telecom issues facing Wisconsin.

We also wish the best for Burnie Bridge in her new responsibilities with the Department of Health and Family Services.
