MILWAUKEE, Wis. – CompcareBlue, the HMO subsidiary of Blue Cross
Blue Shield of Wisconsin (BCBSWi), announced today the completion of
its purchase of the assets of Atrium Health Plan, Inc., a Hudson,
Wis., based health plan serving 28 counties in northern and western
Wisconsin. Atrium Health Plan was a non-Blue Cross Blue Shield
branded subsidiary of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota.
BCBSWi announced its plans to acquire Atrium on May 31, 2005.
“BCBSWi and CompcareBlue have a proven record of service responding
to the health care needs of Wisconsin residents and we look forward
to providing our distinctive service and products to Atrium’s
members,” said Stuart K. Campbell, BCBSWi president and CEO. “This
provides us the opportunity to expand our presence and offer
additional value to people living in northwestern Wisconsin.”
Atrium members will now benefit from competitively priced access to
provider networks throughout Wisconsin, which were previously
unavailable to them. This transaction further expands CompcareBlue’s
provider network to include the majority of Atrium’s providers,
including Gunderson Lutheran, a well-respected health system located
in La Crosse, Wis., and throughout western Wisconsin. Gunderson
Lutheran, along with Mayo Health System, is also available to
BCBSWi’s PPO members. In addition, Atrium members will have access
to BCBSWi’s broad portfolio of products that include its nationwide
provider network.
As part of CompcareBlue, members can also take advantage of a
variety of services including a Quality Assurance Program to ensure
that they receive quality medical care, disease management programs,
access to a variety of consumer discounts through CompcareBlue’s
LifestyleBlueSM Health and Wellness program; and 24 hour-a-day, 7
day-a-week customer service at www.bluecrosswisconsin.com.
Atrium Health Plan provides health coverage to more than 52,000
people including groups and individuals in its PPO and HMO plans,
seniors who subscribe to Medicare select plans, and those in
Medicaid programs.
