The charitable arm of the Wisconsin Builders Association Addresses the Labor Shortage Head-On By Providing Financial Support for Students Going into the Trades

Madison, WI (August 2, 2018) – The Wisconsin Builders (WB) Foundation recently awarded $5,100 in scholarships to seven students going into the building trades at its charity golf outing on July 19th in Wisconsin Dells.  These scholarships are open to students across the state who are entering an institution of higher learning in the building trades.

Scholarship recipients were Alex Doering (Menomonee Falls), Ethan Tews (Eau Claire), Jaeger Brusky (Sturgeon Bay), Jason Claybaugh (Sturgeon Bay), Ryan Smit (Rosendale), Sadie Newbury (Fond du Lac), and Morgan Vander Heiden (Green Bay), who are pursuing careers ranging from architecture, to carpentry, to construction management, and more.

“The Wisconsin Builders Foundation takes great pride in awarding these scholarships,” stated Greg Schaffer, WB Foundation President. “We acknowledge the labor shortage and want to support the building trades. This is one way we can make a difference.”

During the awards ceremony, an update was also given on last year’s scholarship recipients. All have completed or continue to successfully pursue their degree programs, and many have already become employed by the industry.

The 2018 WB Foundation scholarships were generously funded by WBA members James Craig Builders and Tim O’Brien Homes. The Foundation will begin accepting applications for 2019’s scholarships next February. Donations can be made at any time online at wisbuild.org/wb-foundation.
