Hoffman developed plans for the District’s renewable energy project
(Appleton, WI) – The Northland Pines School District in Eagle River, Wisconsin, celebrated the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at two of their schools with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, May 14th. The solar power systems and upgrade of the schools’ energy management systems were planned by Hoffman Planning, Design & Construction, Inc. and Madison Solar Consulting.
“With solar PV system prices falling, relatively high electric rates, and incentives available, the time is right for school districts to explore the use of solar energy,” said Mark Hanson, Hoffman’s director of sustainable services. “On-site solar energy provides numerous educational opportunities for districts that are willing to incorporate solar energy education in their curriculum.”
A 230-kW solar PV system has been installed at Northland Pines High School/Middle School and 100-kW system at Eagle River Elementary School. The solar PV panels have been installed on the roof of the High School/Middle School fieldhouse and on the ground behind Eagle River Elementary School. Northland Pines is working with Hoffman in applying for approval of an 87-kW solar PV system at Land O’ Lakes Elementary School. Including that project, a total of 1,350 solar PV panels will be installed.
The Northland Pines solar energy systems are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 820,850 pounds per year with electricity output that would meet the power needs of 40 average U.S. homes.
The projects are supported by grants from Wisconsin’s Focus on Energy program and green-minded, third-party investors. The solar systems were installed by Eagle Point Solar, based in Dubuque, Iowa.
Hoffman has previously planned solar energy projects for the Darlington Community School District, the Waupaca School District, Holy Wisdom Monastery in Middleton, Congregation of St. Joseph Centers in La Grange Park, Illinois, Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Wichita, Kansas, the Sinsinawa Dominicans in Grant County, Wisconsin, and the Sauk County Health Care Center and Law Enforcement Center.
