MARINETTE – Governor Scott Walker joined State Representative John Nygren, Marinette Mayor Steve Genisot, as well as local officials and business leaders at a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony for the new Wisconsin Maritime Center of Excellence (WMCOE) Business Assistance Center. The WMCOE Business Assistance Center will serve as a business incubator for the successful development of startup or expanding businesses in Marinette County.

“The Wisconsin Maritime Center is a significant investment in Marinette County’s maritime and shipbuilding industry,” said Governor Walker. “This center will help improve our workforce by providing unique education, research, and training opportunities to local technical college students, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders.”

The 23,000-square-foot WMCOE will act as a business incubator owned by the Marinette County Association for Business & Industry and operated by Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC). The primary goal of the WMCOE is to assist individuals and small businesses from the maritime industry to become sustainable, successful companies and employers in the community.

WMCOE will also be used both as a business development center and gathering space for U.S. Navy officers and personnel from nearby Marinette Marine Corp.
