Bayfield: Celebrates 50 years of the festival of arts

Bayfield will celebrate its unique connection to the arts during the 50th Annual Bayfield Festival of Arts weekend, Saturday, July 28th and Sunday, July 29th. Events will include a gathering of over 90 fine art vendors from throughout the Midwest, a local gallery tour with demonstrations and a live art auction.

Bayfield’s Festival of Arts is a juried fine art & craft show held annually in Memorial Park on the scenic shores of Lake Superior in downtown Bayfield. Guests will find a unique selection of pottery, painting, jewelry, sculpture, glass works, wood carvings, photography, wearable art and more. Visitors can also enjoy live musical performances by festival artists and delicious festival foods. Five “Best in Show” awards are presented to noteworthy artists based on craftsmanship and creativity. As part of this honor, winning artists receive a $200 cash prize and free admission to next year’s festival. Festival hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday and 10:00am to 4:00pm on Sunday.

In complement to the festival by the lake, guests are invited to experience art in the making during the Festival of Arts Gallery Tour from 10:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday, July 28th and Sunday, July 29th. Ten Bayfield area galleries will welcome visitors throughout the weekend with open houses, demonstrations, and special sales as part of this gallery tour. Local artists will perform wheel-thrown pottery techniques, and silversmithing, painting and quilting demonstrations. These events are free and open to the public.

The weekend’s kick-off event is “Art on the Bay,” the Chequamegon Bay Arts Council’s 11th annual fundraising auction. This live art auction is set for Friday, July 27th, from 5:30pm to 8:30pm at the Bayfield Lakeside Pavilion. The event features a sampling of food and drink from local eateries and wineries in addition to live entertainment. The auction preview and silent auction will take place from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, followed by the live auction beginning at 7:00pm. This is CBAC’s most important fundraising event, directly supporting grant opportunities that enrich the arts in the Chequamegon Bay region.
