American Pasteurization Company and The National Food Lab Announce Partnership: Provide complete HPP solution

Food and beverage industry leaders collaborate to deliver full suite of HPP services

MILWAUKEE and LIVERMORE, Calif. (May 31, 2012) – American Pasteurization Company (APC), a leading high-pressure toll processor, and The National Food Lab (The NFL), a food and beverage consulting and testing firm, announced today a partnership to better serve food and beverage manufacturers in the U.S. As more food manufacturers consider high-pressure processing (HPP), this new collaboration provides companies with a complete HPP solution – from testing and validation through HPP implementation.

Additionally, it allows companies to more effectively reap the benefits of HPP, which not only provides a safer processing technique, but also results in a more natural product and faster time-to-market.

To meet these demands, a new two-liter unit for high-pressure testing will be available at The NFL’s headquarters in California in Fall 2012. As part of the partnership, APC’s clients will have access to The NFL’s full suite of services, including challenge studies, shelf-life studies, product development and formulation work, focus groups and taste panels.

“Access to high-quality validation from technical experts is absolutely crucial when adopting HPP,” said Justin Segel, CEO of APC. “We continue to hear from current and potential customers that they need a reliable, quality testing partner who understands the scientific effects of HPP.”

“HPP technology is a key processing solution for our clients and the industry. This partnership, coupled with our vast experience as a recognized processing authority and our expert staff, led by Dr. Wilfredo Ocasio, will allow us to continue to be at the forefront of providing food safety solutions,” said Kevin Waters, president of The NFL.

In addition, The NFL can provide product development and sensory services for products that need development work prior to commercialization with the HPP technique, while APC can provide packaging and logistics solutions to make products HPP-ready. Through partnership of the two organizations, the processes of testing and implementation will be streamlined, speeding time-to-market.

“We’re excited about partnering with The NFL because of the benefits it will provide our customers. By collaborating with an industry leader, we can now offer a full suite of services, especially process validation, shelf life evaluations, food safety and quality assurance testing,” Segel said.

APC, which serves clients around the country, recently expanded operations at its Milwaukee headquarters through the addition of a fourth processing line for HPP tolling operations. APC and The NFL will be exhibiting at the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Annual Meeting & Expo at booth 2735, June 25-28, in Las Vegas.
