Following the start of site preparation activity in April, vertical construction is now underway on the Multipurpose Building in Area I of the Foxconn Project Site

MOUNT PLEASANT, WIS. – Less than one year after the Village of Mount Pleasant and Racine County were named as the future home of Foxconn, local officials and representatives from M+W | Gilbane celebrated the start of vertical construction on the project site as construction crews began lifting 35-foot tall, pre-fabricated panels into place. The panels – 120 in total – are being installed to create the main structure of the Multipurpose Building in Area I of the Foxconn Project Site.

“Today marks yet another major milestone as the first vertical construction begins on the Foxconn project site,” said County Executive Jonathan Delagrave. “Looking around at the companies and people working on this site, you quickly see the statewide impact of this effort. This project represents new jobs and new careers, and we are excited to continue building our community, just as Foxconn continues to build its campus.”

The start of vertical construction on the Multipurpose Building marks a significant milestone for the Foxconn project. The 120,000-square foot building is scheduled to be complete in Winter 2018/2019.  This will be the first of many buildings on what is becoming the Wisconn Valley Science and Technology Park. Foxconn and M+W | Gilbane have previously announced that all of the contractors selected for work on the Multipurpose Building have Wisconsin operations.

“With the start of vertical construction on the Multipurpose Building, we are seeing the next step in a multi-phase, unprecedented project,” said Adam Jelen, Senior Vice President, Gilbane Building Company. “We continue to proceed with the project in a carefully planned way that enables us to maintain our Wisconsin First commitment, maximizing the opportunities for Wisconsin businesses and residents.”

In October 2017, the Village of Mount Pleasant was announced as the future home of Foxconn. Since that time, a remarkable amount of progress has been made, both on the state and local levels. Public infrastructure work around the site – including installation of new water, sewer and roads – is well underway. M+W | Gilbane, which began site preparation work in April 2018 has completed more than half of the necessary excavation and storm water management work for Phase 1 of the project and remains on schedule.

“The start of vertical construction on this $10 billion investment in the Village of Mount Pleasant is a major milestone for the project and our community,” said David DeGroot, President of the Village of Mount Pleasant. “It is a tangible sign of the hard work and collaboration that has gone into this project at all levels of government over the past year, and it is truly a cause for celebration.”
