Beyond Health Steering Committee: Announces 2018-2020 Beyond Health Community Health Improvement Plan

(BROWN COUNTY, Wis.) – The Beyond Health Steering Committee is excited to announce the official roll-out of the 2018‑2020 Beyond Health Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) for Brown County.

“The Beyond Health Community Health Improvement Plan is a long-term, systematic effort to address public health problems in Brown County,” says Anna Destree, Brown County Public Health Officer and Chair of the Beyond Health Steering Committee. “It is based on the results of the community health assessment process, and will serve as the framework for Brown County community health initiatives between now and 2020.”

Public Health is mandated to complete a Community Health Assessment (CHA)/ Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) every 5 years per Wisconsin State Statute and hospital systems must complete a community health needs assessment (CHNA) every 3 years due to the Affordable Care Act. To align public health and hospital mandates, Beyond Health completes a CHA/CHIP process every three years.

“On October 17, 2017, 125 community members from 50 different agencies gathered at Lambeau field for a Community Health Assessment Summit,” says Debbie Armbruster, City of De Pere Health Officer and Beyond Health Steering Committee member. “Presentations were made by subject matter experts on an array of data to inform the attendees of the top health priorities and the progress the four existing taskforces had made since the last CHA in 2014.  After interactive discussion by the attendees, 7 health topic areas were identified.”

The Beyond Health Steering Committee took the top 3 health priorities to continue focusing on for the next 3 years and then set out to develop strategic plans to address each priority.

The key health priorities identified were:

1Obesity: Too many Brown County residents are at an unhealthy weight

2Mental Health: Too many Brown County residents experience poor mental health

3) Drugs & Alcohol:  Too many Brown County residents struggle with alcohol and drug misuse
