Statement on the Madison east side incident regarding a financial institution from Rose Oswald Poels, president/CEO of the Wisconsin Bankers Association
“On behalf of everyone in the banking industry, we extend our deepest sympathies to the staff and customers who were present during yesterday’s incident at the Chase Bank branch at 4513 Milwaukee Street. As any Wisconsin banker knows, every bank’s priority is the safety of its customers and staff.
While it is unfortunate they experienced this robbery, it is fortunate that this bank, like all banks in Wisconsin, take security extremely seriously.
It is important to repeat that the safety of customers and employees is the number one priority for every banker in the state. Because of that, banks are constantly improving their robbery response training and procedures.
Banks have great working relationships with their local law enforcement agencies. Banks and the police work closely to ensure that both the public and other financial institutions know to be on the lookout for suspects.
The WBA reminds would-be criminals that it is a federal crime to rob a federally insured depository institution and that 90 percent of all bank robbers are caught and severely penalized, regardless of the fact that most do not obtain a significant amount of money.”
