Miron Construction: Ranks among Engineering News Record’s ‘Top 100 Green Building Contractors’

NEENAH, Wis. (Sept. 14, 2017) — Miron Construction Co., Inc. recently ranked among the ‘Top 100 Green Building Contractors’ in the nation, by Engineering News Record (ENR), for leading the construction of third-party certified sustainable buildings in the United States.

Over the past 10 years, Miron’s commitment to building green is demonstrated by its portfolio of 64 LEED projects, valued at more than $866 million. Projects awarded LEED certification in 2016 included the University of Iowa’s Mary Louise Petersen Residence Hall in Iowa City, Iowa, which achieved LEED Gold, Menasha Corporation’s corporate office, located in Neenah, Wisconsin, which also achieved LEED Gold; both were certified under LEED BD+C:NC v2009. Additionally, the Lake Mills Elementary School, located in Lake Mills, Wisconsin, was awarded LEED Platinum and is the only K-12 project to be included in the pilot of the LEED v4 Beta program.

ENR attempts to bring structure to the construction industry by performing annual surveys of its key segments and ranking companies engaged in general contracting, specialty contracting, engineering, architecture and environmental services, among other specialties. The rankings are based on annual revenue at home and abroad, and are further divided into specific sectors.

“Sustainability is one of Miron’s six key corporate drivers. Our ‘Building Green’ mission is to lead by example to demonstrate the benefits of the triple bottom line – people, planet and payback – through education, our corporate culture, and by building practical sustainable solutions,” said Theresa Lehman, LEED Fellow, LEED AP BD+C, ID+C, WELL AP, director of sustainable services at Miron Construction. “It’s not by chance that we are recognized as a leader in sustainability. We work hard to educate our clients, design-build partners and employees, leading by example by building our own LEED-certified office buildings, incorporating sustainability into our business operations and construction practices, actively partnering with key sustainable organizations and building cost-effective, practical, high-performance and healthy third-party-certified sustainable buildings for our clients.”

As reported by ENR, the market for green design and construction continues to grow steadily as seen from results of their Top Green Buildings survey. As a group, the Top 100 Green Design Firms generated $5.99 billion in design revenue from projects registered with, and actively seeking, certification from third-party rating groups under objective sustainable design standards. This is up 11.6 percent from the $5.37 billion in 2015. As a group, the Top 100 Contractors generated $57.25 billion in green construction revenue for 2016, which grew 8.9 percent from $52.58 billion in 2015.

“We are fortunate that Miron’s owners believe in sustainability and have made it a priority within our company and have invested in the education of our 145 LEED credentialed professionals. We are extremely honored to be recognized as the only Wisconsin- and Iowa-based contractor among the top 100 contractors in the country by ENR,” said Lehman.
