Clean Lakes Alliance: $75,000 grant targets local beaches: Back to the beach presented by Madison community foundation’s year of giving

This afternoon, the Madison Community Foundation presented Clean Lakes Alliance with a large grant to help spur increased community investment in our local beaches, as part of their year-long 75th anniversary celebration.

“We have the best farmers’ market, we have a world-class university, we’re one of the most bike-friendly cities in the country, but our beaches fall far behind the rest of Madison’s gems,” said Clean Lakes Alliance executive director James Tye. “We know residents deserve and demand the best lake parks and beaches.”

Over the next year, Clean Lakes Alliance will highlight our beaches with several new projects, including:

  • State of the Beaches Report
We’ll take stock of the 25 public beaches on our five lakes with a comprehensive assessment to identify what we already have and what condition it’s in.
  • Reimagining Warner Beach Contest
Let’s envision what our beaches could be with a conceptual design contest to reimagine Warner Beach – complete with a $10,000 grand prize (see below).
  • Back to the Beach event on Saturday, July 29th
Everyone’s invited to get “back to the beach” with family-friendly sandcastle building at Olbrich Park during Loop the LakeShoreline Swim & Isthmus Paddle & Portage.
