LegalBoard creator secures agreement to expand distribution
5/17/2017

Brian Potts, creator of the LegalBoard, has secured an agreement to expand distribution for his specialty product.

The Perkins Coie attorney from Madison designed this keyboard specifically for his peers, with often-used words and symbols mapped to easy-to-reach keys. He sells the LegalBoard online for $75, and with initial sales across the country, he says he’s looking forward to expanding the company.

“Things are going great,” Potts told WisBusiness.com. “Better than expected, I’d say.”

He recently signed an exclusive reseller agreement with All-State Legal, a major supplier of office supplies that has been in business for over 60 years. Potts says the reseller does business with close to 20,000 legal firms.

The exclusive agreement states that, for a time, both All-State Legal and Potts can sell the LegalBoard. Big-box stores like Staples and Office Depot are resellers which deal directly with customers, selling on the individual level. Potts says All-State Legal will mostly be selling orders of the LegalBoard to legal offices, business-to-business.

All-State Legal reached out to the LegalBoard team, Potts says, and was one of several that showed interest in selling this new product.

The LegalBoard debuted in early 2017 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where Potts says it drew a lot of attention.

“A few [resellers] actually reached out to me,” he said. “I thought, ‘I’m gonna hold off a few months and make a decision.’ All-State seems like the best fit -- a no-brainer to partner with them.”

And Potts says this early growth is “just getting going.”

“It’s only been four months, and only two and a half since we started selling the keyboard,” he said. “Hopefully, this will scale us up significantly -- it’s pretty exciting.”

Potts tells WisBusiness he and his team are cooking up another product in the legal tech realm. It’s still in development, but should be unveiled “probably in the next month.”

The company has had sales in 49 states so far, and in multiple countries around the world, including Russia. In the United States, only Wyoming is holding out.
