State chamber calls on all Legislators to Co-Sponsor LRB-2593/1

MADISON – On Monday, Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna) and Joint Committee on Finance Co-Chair Senator Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) began circulating for co-sponsorship LRB-2593/1, related to administrative rulemaking. This legislation is one of the most significant regulatory reforms in a generation and would greatly improve the rulemaking process here in Wisconsin.

Under current law, once a regulation is promulgated it stays on the books forever. This legislation would end that, and instead require agencies to re-promulgate rules every seven years.

WMC President &CEO Kurt R. Bauer released the following statement:

“Rep. Steineke, Sen. Darling and the co-authors of this legislation deserve a lot of credit for putting forward a game-changing reform. This legislation would build on the great work that has been done over the past six years to improve Wisconsin’s regulatory climate and push back on the ever-growing regulatory state.

“Wisconsin recently made the top-10 best states for business. Businesses throughout the country and throughout the world have taken notice of the improvements our state has made. An improving regulatory environment has absolutely played a role in improving our state’s business climate.

“Without the forward thinking leadership of legislators like Rep. Steineke and Sen. Darling none of this could have been accomplished. We applaud Rep. Steineke and Sen. Darling for putting forward this bold reform, and we call on all legislators to co-sponsor this legislation that will significantly improve our state’s regulatory climate for years to come.”

LRB-2593/1 is out for co-sponsorship until Wednesday, May 24.
