Blackhawk to host Health Science Division Open House

JANESVILLE, WI – – How many college campuses host a 50,000 square foot Health Science Division that features state-of-the-art equipment such as a virtual cadaver, a six-chair dental assistant clinic or technologically-advanced patient simulators? On Saturday, October 22, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Blackhawk Technical College (BTC) invites prospective students and the community to an Open House at the central campus in Janesville (6004 S. County Rd. G) to see one of Wisconsin’s most advanced health science training facilities.

The Open House will provide guests an opportunity to meet instructors, view demonstrations in several program areas and learn about BTC’s Health Science offerings including Nursing, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Medical Laboratory Technician, Physical Therapy, Dental Assistant, Laboratory Technician Assistant, Radiography, Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy Technician and Emergency Medical Services.

In addition, attendees can tour the facility, register to win a free Apple Ipad, participate in an Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader Challenge, and spend some time with Arabella Barlow, a nurse reenactment from the Civil War.

Health care providers across the region rely on BTC to prepare exemplary practitioners for employment. A rise in the number of people age 65 and older, along with recent reforms offering health care access to millions of people, have increased the demand for health care professionals in each of the program areas BTC offers.

In August this year, BTC completed the remodeling of the Health Science Division doubling the space for programs and creating a more realistic workplace setting to better help with instruction.

Light refreshments will be served throughout the event along with a chance to win prizes and receive giveaways. This is a free event, open to the public.
