Wisconsin Council on Medical Education & Workforce: Strongly supports Wisconsin Rural Initiative’s focus on health care workforce

Contact: George Quinn, WCMEW, 608-516-5189

Madison – The Wisconsin Council on Medical Education and Workforce (WCMEW) is strongly supporting “The Rural Wisconsin Initiative”, a package of proposals designed to bolster health care in rural Wisconsin.

The Initiative’s workforce proposals include:

 Funding for rural hospitals that provide training opportunities for advanced-practice clinicians,

including nurse practitioners and physicians assistants.

 Expansion of graduate medical education opportunities in rural Wisconsin.

 Incentives for creation of rural consortiums for training allied health professionals.

“Ensuring access to high quality health care for Wisconsin’s rural citizens means having sufficient

numbers of physicians, advanced practice clinicians, and allied health professionals providing care

in rural communities”, said George Quinn, WCMEW Executive Director. “The best way to ensure

access is to have these professionals trained in the same rural environments where they will

practice.”
