Miron Construction: Honored with six 2016 BUILD Wisconsin Awards

Neenah – Miron Construction Co., Inc. was recently awarded six 2016 BUILD Wisconsin Awards as presented by the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Wisconsin. Miron has been awarded more than 50 AGC BUILD Wisconsin Awards since the program’s inception in 2003.

 

“Miron is committed to building excellence and our work on these projects truly showcases the type of craftsmanship, innovation and problem solving that our workers bring to the jobsite every day,” said David G. Voss Jr., president and CEO of Miron. “We’re humbled to be recognized alongside many other leaders in the construction industry.”

 

Miron will be honored at the AGC BUILD Wisconsin Awards banquet on Thursday, Oct.13, at SentryWorld in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, for the following projects:

 

  • Fox Valley Technical College Public Safety Training Center (Appleton, Wisconsin) in the “General Contractor—New Construction” category
  • Lambeau Field Stadium Improvement Projects Phase II (Green Bay, Wisconsin) in the “Commercial Projects—Renovation” category
  • Agropur Inc. Cheese Plant Addition & Wastewater Treatment Plant (Luxemburg, Wisconsin) in the “Industrial Projects—New Construction and Renovation” category
  • Lake Mills Elementary School (Lake Mills, Wisconsin) in the “General Contractor—New Construction” category
  • Lake Mills Elementary School (Lake Mills, Wisconsin)—Environmental Excellence Award
  • Lake Mills Elementary School (Lake Mills, Wisconsin)—Excellence in Partnering Award

Entries are judged on sustainable practices, unusual design and craftsmanship, innovation in construction technique or material, and meeting difficult challenges. The BUILD Wisconsin Awards stand as a testament to the skill, integrity, hard work, ingenuity and commitment that go into each construction project.

 

About Fox Valley Technical College Public Safety Training Center
The 95,000-square-foot training center provides a much-needed program expansion. The main structure is a tactical lab and classroom building that includes two firing ranges, defensive tactic rooms, a fully equipped forensic laboratory and a jail training space. The facility’s extensive training areas include a five-story Class A burn building, indoor and outdoor firing ranges, an emergency vehicle driving range, a scenario village in addition to trench and confined space rescue units. One of the more distinctive challenges of the project involved the relocation of a decommissioned Boeing 727 cargo jet from the nearby Appleton International Airport to the project site.

About Lambeau Field Stadium Improvement Projects (Phase II)    
Miron’s improvements to Lambeau Field Stadium include a new secure entrance and parking for players, a weight room, a dining area and kitchen, enhancements to the Oneida Nation Gate with increased entrance width and the Conditioning, Rehab and Instructional Center (known as CRIC). The new Pro Shop is more than double the size of the previous one and features high-end finishes to match the rest of the facility. Miron also constructed and installed an oversized Lombardi Trophy at the stadium. The entire project was completed during one of Wisconsin’s most brutal winters, with workers experiencing temperatures and wind chills sometimes close to 45 degrees below zero.

About Agropur Inc. Cheese Plant Addition & Wastewater Treatment Plant    
The new plant houses a four-bay milk intake zone and brand new equipment to produce mozzarella and provolone cheese, as well as office space, a cheese store and future cheese make. In addition, it contains a new brine room, packaging rooms, shipping and receiving office, underground water storage tank for the fire suppression system, analytical laboratory and a dry storage room that was constructed for future use as a freezer. Construction of the new plant triggered the need to increase capacity at the company’s whey and waste processing plant to handle the increased volume of whey generated by the new plant. Miron assisted Agropur throughout pre-construction, design, value engineering and construction to develop a facility well-poised for future growth.

About Lake Mills Elementary School
Miron Construction worked closely with all Lake Mills Elementary School stakeholders from the project planning stage through post-construction. The design-build team of Eppstein Uhen Architects, U.S. Green Building Council, Lake Mills community members/taxpayers, the school board, administration, subcontractors and many more worked to focus their energy on partnership and to regularly communicate the project’s mission, goals and drivers to one another. The school was built as one of 120 projects across the globe that took park in the LEED v4 Beta Program. Miron constructed the new 93,000-square-foot school and 151,000 square feet of activity and athletic fields, playground areas and walk/bike paths on the site of the previous school. Once the existing school was deconstructed, 96 percent of the construction waste was recycled. The project achieved Platinum LEED certification, while maintaining the $18.7 million budget. The school features high indoor air quality, which led to a 75 percent reduction in recorded asthma and allergy incidents and a 15 percent reduction in overall absenteeism.
