Starion Financial breaks ground on Sun Prairie bank branch

Starion Financial broke ground on a new bank branch in Sun Prairie at 350 South Grand Avenue.

The bank opened its first Wisconsin branch in Middleton in 2006. In 2013, Starion opened the Sun Prairie branch in rented space slightly north of the new location.

“When we chose Sun Prairie for our second branch in Dane County, we saw a community with lots of growth potential, strong infrastructure and a city looking to grow,” said Craig Larson, president/CEO of Starion. “Sun Prairie was also a good choice geographically because it allowed us to serve customers on both the east and west sides of the county. The 2014 acquisition of WPS Community Bank in Monona continued to improve our service and convenience to customers.”

Designed by design-build firm Iconica, the ground floor of the new Sun Prairie bank will be 3,500 square feet with an additional 2,000 square feet on the lower level. The ground level will have a conference room, eight offices, five work stations, reception area and bathroom. A glass tower at the entrance will allow natural light into the building and there will be a drive-through on the east side of the building. The lower level will have a conference room with video conferencing capabilities as well as a break room, bathrooms, and storage and utility space, with the ability to include additional work space.

“Starion’s success and strong values have translated into quality service recognized by our customers and the community,” said John Hecht, Starion market president. “When this building is complete, we will be able to offer even more services and better-utilize the talent and support of our growing staff and the larger Starion organization.”

The building will have a variety of energy conserving features including LED lighting, light sensors, reflective windows, and high efficiency heating and air systems. Native plants will be used in the landscaping.

The ATM was removed Apr. 1. Aside from that, the construction will not affect the bank operations and services at the current location. Construction is expected to be completed in late fall.

Starion is a $1.2 billion family-owned community bank headquartered in Bismarck, N.D. that offers a full line of commercial, personal and mortgage banking services. Started in Oakes, N.D., in 1969, Starion opened in Madison in 2006 and has three locations: 5900 Gisholt Drive, Madison; 1651 John Q. Hammons Drive, Middleton; and 326 South Grand Avenue, Sun Prairie. The bank has 12 branches in North Dakota.
