November 30th, 2015: The Oshkosh-Neenah MSA monthly unemployment rate decreased to 3.4 percent in October from 4.5 percent in October 2014, according to figures released from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. Wisconsin’s unemployment rate was 3.6 percent in October from a revised 4.5 percent in October 2014. The U.S. unemployment rate was 5.0 percent in October. Total employment in the Oshkosh-Neenah MSA increased slightly to 89,553 in October from 88,270 in October 2014.

“Since last summer, Oshkosh-Neenah MSA has had the sharpest year-to-year unemployment rate drop among all Wisconsin metropolitan areas”, said Jason White, CEO of Greater Oshkosh Economic Development Corporation. “While employment has been strong, many of our employers would like to see a wider pool of candidates – so it’s a great time to come to Oshkosh for work.”

“Private sector employment is up by 1,700 jobs in the past year – fueled in large part by the ‘service providing’, ‘professional and business services’, and ‘education and health services’ sectors. These increases can be largely attributed to ramping up at staffing agencies and additions at the headquarters of several of our area’s leading companies. The growth in education and health services has been concentrated in long-term, home, and hospice care.”
