WEDC officials and state companies will head to Canada and Mexico early next year for trade ventures there, hoping to boost exports to Wisconsin’s two largest export destinations.
Those in the Mexico trip will visit Mexico City and Guadalajara between Feb. 21 and Feb. 26. The Canada visit will take place in mid-March and will target Toronto and Winnipeg.
The two countries already make up nearly half of Wisconsin’s exports, but their proximity offers an easy opportunity for companies that are new to exporting, as well as those exporters seeking to expand, WEDC said in a news release.
The agency, which is inviting Wisconsin companies on the trip, has gone on 18 trade ventures since it started in 2011, WEDC spokesman Kelly Lietz said. The countries the agency has gone to include Indonesia, Chile, Poland, Germany, Kenya, Qatar and China.
This will be WEDC’s third trade venture to Canada, although Winnipeg wasn’t on the list of cities before. Gov. Scott Walker went on one of those trips in June, but there are no confirmed plans yet for him to attend the upcoming trade mission to Canada, Lietz said.
