Meriter – UnityPoint Health Hosting 4th Annual Candy Trade-In Party

MADISON, Wis.– Meriter – UnityPoint Health will host its 4th Annual Halloween Candy Trade-In Party from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Meriter West Washington clinic.

“Halloween is about more than just candy, it’s an opportunity for families to spend time together,” Dr. Sara Kreckman, pediatrician at the Meriter West Washington clinic, said. “The Candy Trade-In Party is a chance to extend that family fun for one more day and keep our kids a little bit healthier at the same time.”

The American Heart Association estimates the average child already eats four times the daily recommended limit of sugar on a typical day. Halloween can add several more pounds of sugar into the mix.

Kids at the Candy Trade-InParty will trade in their candy for healthy snacks, goody bags and the chance to win great prizes, simply for turning over excess candy. Last year, more than 600 pounds of treats were donated.

All candy collected is sent to U.S. Troops overseas through Operation Gratitude, along with notes that children write at the event. Operation Gratitude is a non-profit organization that annually sends 100,000 care packages filled with snacks, entertainment items and personal letters of appreciation. Any candy donated to the event must be unopened. Visit meriter.com/WestWashingtonClinic for additional details.

Planning on attending Kids in the Rotunda or the final outdoors farmers’ market? You won’t be far from our party! Our guests are welcome to free parking in the ramp behind the clinic.
