BUCKS SUPPORT MILWAUKEE FIRE DEPARTMENT IN EFFORT TO PREVENT HOME FIRES

Players to ride in fire trucks with firefighters to inspect and install smoke alarms
as part of Fire Prevention Week

The Milwaukee Bucks are joining forces with the Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD) for Project FOCUS (Firefighters Out Creating Urban Safety) to raise awareness of fire prevention and to ensure that Milwaukee homes are equipped with the working smoke alarms that are proven to save lives. To close out Fire Prevention Week, players Johnny O’Bryant and Greivis Vasquez will join honorary fire chief Greg Monroe and MFD Engine 28 to inspect, install and change batteries of smoke alarms for Milwaukee residents on Friday, Oct. 9.

After a brief press conference at Fire Engine 28 (424 N. 30th St.) at 2 p.m., the players will go out to the neighborhood surrounding the firehouse to check on smoke alarms in homes.

The theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week is “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep!” This is the 24th year that Milwaukee firefighters have gone door-to-door to check for working smoke alarms and to offer fire safety tips in the neighborhoods they serve. Firefighters can install free smoke alarms or batteries as needed in each home to provide a critical safety tool. They also encourage residents to test their fire alarms every month to ensure they work. Citizens needing smoke alarms can call (414) 286-8980.
