United States Department of Commerce export data just released
Sheboygan – Already recognized as one of the hottest economies in the nation, Sheboygan County companies are churning out more products that are consumed elsewhere in the world, recently released data from the US Department of Commerce reveals. From 2013 to 2014, Sheboygan County’s export gain was eclipsed by only two other Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA); Duluth/Superior and Janesville. Exports play a vital role in supporting U.S. employment. Export growth is also beneficial in reducing America’s negative balance of trade.
Several MSA’s across eastern Wisconsin actually suffered declines including Milwaukee -2.0%, Fond du Lac -4.1%, Oshkosh -17.9%, Appleton -3.0%, and Racine -8.7%.
Sheboygan County success with exports has helped fuel the need for additional workforce and housing. Currently, Sheboygan County employers currently have nearly 2,700 jobs available, many that include excellent wage and benefit packages. Export growth is not limited to the largest companies—according to the Small Business Administration (SBA), small businesses generated the majority of net new jobs over the past decade in part by developing export markets. As these companies increase output for export additional jobs gains are projected to occur.
