New location is 1234 N. Sherman Avenue in Northgate Shopping Center

MADISON, Wis. — A valuable Madison resource for southern Wisconsin war veterans is moving to a new and improved space in a more convenient location. The Madison Vet Center will open at 1234 N. Sherman Avenue on Madison’s north side Monday, May 11. The new location has more accessible parking than the previous Williamson Street location, and two Madison Metro bus stops are conveniently located within 100 yards.

The 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. business hours remain the same, and the 608-264-5342 telephone number is unchanged.

The Vet Center’s mission is to serve veterans and their families by providing a continuum of evidence-based care that emphasizes collaborative relationships to ensure a seamless web of services. The Vet Center welcomes home war veterans with honor, provides quality readjustment services in a caring manner, and assists veterans and their family members make a successful post-war adjustment.

Confidential Vet Center services are free to all eligible veterans and their families. Direct client services include general mental and psychological assessment, psychosocial counselling and psychotherapy, substance abuse counselling, employment counselling, education counselling, discharge upgrade assistance, crisis assistance and housing assistance. In addition, the center does community education, outreach, training, networking and referral to other resources, among many other services.

The Madison Vet Center has an all-veteran staff of five counselors and an office manager, led by a team leader.

The VA first established a Vet Center in Madison in 1979.
