TREK TRAVEL ANNOUNCES TWO NEW TRIPS FOR WINTER OF 2016

Spain’s Canary Islands is an avid cyclists dream trip while the Multi Sport Costa Rican adventure offers intrepid travelers cycling plus a rain forest chocolate tour, rafting, surfing and zip lining

Madison, WI – May 7, 2015 – For winter 2016, Trek Travel announces two new trips designed to meet the needs of today’s high adrenaline travelers. For the first time, Trek Travel will offer a bicycling vacation to Spain’s Canary Islands. In addition, the newly revamped Costa Rica multi-sport trip explores the country’s natural wonders along with an abundance of sporty pursuits.

A Magical Costa Rican Adventure

A rainforest chocolate tour, rafting, zip lining, surfing and horseback riding are explored on this multi-sport bicycling vacation which begins and ends in Alajuela, Costa Rica.

Offered in January and February, this six-day, five-night tour begins with an exhilarating nine mile white water rafting trip down the Balsa River. Passing through dense tropical wilderness, guests tackle class III and class IV rapids. The next days’ activities will combine dirt road cycling on mountain bikes, ranging from 5 to 20 miles per day with up to 2300 ft. of climbing, along with a daily activity.

Activity highlights include an adrenaline filled canopy zip line tour inside the Monteverde Cloud Forest which features over 2500 plant species including the most orchid species in a single place, a Tico-style beach cookout hosted by a local fisherman and his family, a surfing lesson at Playa Guiones, and a sunset horseback ride on the beach. This magical Costa Rican adventure is priced at $2999 per person.

Exotic Canary Islands

Amazing picturesque ascents with climbs as high as 12,000 feet and exhilarating descents highlight this cycling lovers’ dream trip. The Canary Islands have long captivated professional cyclists who train in these picturesque mountains that offer both scenery and the world famous Valley of the Tears climb.

The five-night trip begins with a historical walking tour of Vegueta in Las Palmas before heading to Maspalomas where cyclists will stay at the luxurious Grand Hotel Residencia for the next five days. Travelers can choose between a short and an avid cycling option that ranges between 40 and 92 miles per day, with climbing options between 6,000 and 12,000 ft.

Featured rides include a 54-mile ride with 6000 ft. of climbing to San Bartolome with downtime at the charming village of Fataga, considered one of the most beautiful on the island; a 77-mile ride with 9,200 ft. of climbing to the center of the island with a stop at the historic town of Telde with its unique cave dwellings in volcanic rocks and noted archeological sites. The final day of riding features a 74 mile, 10,000 foot climb to the Valley of the Tears, one of the toughest climbs in Europe and one that will never be forgotten. Prices start at $4399 per person and the trip is offered between December 2015 and March 2016.
