Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center: Community invited to attend GLIIHC groundbreaking ceremony

Milwaukee, WI — Community and news media are invited to attend a groundbreaking and blessing ceremony April 17, 2015 to mark the new location for the Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center (GLIIHC). Over the past two years, the Center has nearly doubled its patient base, thus creating a need for an expanded facility. The historic Goldman’s Department Store on Mitchell Street was chosen as the new location, with renovation of the building beginning early in April 2015.

Healthcare providers will begin seeing patients in the new 40,300 square foot Center in November 2015. The renovated Center will include new reception areas, expanded clinical, diagnostic and patient exam areas, a demonstration kitchen, a large community exercise wellness center / therapy space, expanded behavioral health and social service office space, community and resource space, and space for a new dental clinic (future expansion). Improved patient parking will also be available at the new Center.

The new Center will revitalize a historic Milwaukee landmark and combine GLIIHC services into one efficient footprint. Designed from the ground up with patient, family, staff and community in mind, the new Center is designed for maximum healthcare delivery, collaboration, and efficiency.

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 2:00 pm on April 17, 2015 at 930 West Historic Mitchell Street, Milwaukee. A ceremony will take place there to be followed by the GLIICH 10th Anniversary Red Shawl Gala, a fundraiser for the Center to be held at the Potawatomi Casino Hotel.

The theme of this year’s Gala “Strengthening Our Youth and Families” highlights the Center’s goal of providing programming that will empower youth, build resilience, foster lasting connections, and ultimately strengthen families. The Red Shawl Gala begins at 5:30 p.m. and includes a silent auction, entertainment and elegant dinner.
