Project will enhance local electric reliability

PEWAUKEE, Wis. – American Transmission Co. today filed an application with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin to construct a new 138-kilovolt transmission line in southern Fond du Lac County called the Creekview Interconnection Project.

The proposed project involves construction of a new substation and a new transmission line to address electric system reliability issues in the area. The new Creekview Substation will be owned, built and operated by We Energies and will be located on the north side of County Highway F near Greenway Road. To connect the substation to the electric transmission system, ATC will build a new transmission line either west of the proposed substation site, which would be 6.5 miles in length; or east and north of the proposed substation site, which would be 9.3 miles in length. The west alternative is ATC’s preferred route because it is shorter, less expensive and has fewer environmental impacts.

The PSC requires that ATC propose at least two route alternatives for review and evaluation. “The PSC makes the determination on the project need and selects the route to be built,” said Jamie Lostetter, senior regulatory project manager for the project. We Energies has received local approval for the substation plans.

The PSC conducts its own public outreach process, including technical and public hearings, which will likely be held in summer 2015. “The PSC corresponds directly with local residents to make them aware of the dates and times of the public hearing,” said Lostetter. “The hearings offer the public an opportunity to make their concerns known to the decision makers.”

Additional details will be available on the PSC’s website under Docket No. 137-CE-177. A map of the proposed project and additional information can be located here and additional information can be found at www.atc-projects.com. ATC anticipates a decision from the PSC on this project in fall 2015.
