250 High School Students Expected to Participate

Last week we found out Wisconsin will likely add a remarkable 53,000 jobs this year. At Business World, we’re equipping high school students with business skills so that momentum can continue and more jobs are created; hopefully within our state. Former Business World students now hold leading positions at organizations such as Baker Tilly, Nike and the Wisconsin School of Business.

WHAT: Mini Business World, a business and entrepreneurship program for high school students produced by WMC Foundation and sponsored by American Family Insurance and the Alliant Energy Foundation.

WHO: 250 kids expected from Evansville, LaFollette, Madison East, Madison Memorial, Madison West, McFarland, Mount Horeb, Sun Prairie and Wisconsin Heights High Schools.

WHEN: Friday, January 30, 2015 9:00 a.m. – 2:15 p.m.

WHERE: American Family Insurance Headquarters, 6000 American Parkway – Madison, WI 53783

WHY: To give high school students a flavor for the world of business and entrepreneurship as they begin to make critical post-high school decisions.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The Wisconsin Business World program, a WMC initiative, is partnering with American Family Insurance and the Alliant Energy Foundation to host a one-day session on business and entrepreneurship.

At the Mini BW program, students are challenged to take over an old, outdated company and in one day re-brand their company, complete with new product, logo and tagline. Communications and Finance projects round out the student experience. Students leave with an increased knowledge of the workplace, the Wisconsin economy, and some of the great companies that call Wisconsin home!

This program will show students the challenges businesses face when making everyday decisions in areas such as finance, marketing, and communications. The students will interact with others in their “company”, allowing them to collaborate and function as a team, just like in the real world of business. Through presentations and projects, Mini BW will cover Wisconsin’s economy and the opportunities available in our great state, as well as introduce students to what it takes to prepare for the workplace.

The Mini Business World program is a precursor to the full four-day Business World summer programs which will take place this June at Edgewood College in Madison and St. Norbert College in De Pere.

Wisconsin Business World is produced by the WMC Foundation, which is the educational division of Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce, and is designed to teach high school students about the importance of the free enterprise system. In addition, Business World opens students’ eyes to the many business opportunities available to them in Wisconsin.
