Hoffman completes renovation to Appleton facility

(Appleton, WI) Renovation at the former elementary school on the St. Mary Catholic Central School site has been completed and is now home to five different, yet related education programs. Project Bridges Daycare, the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh Head Start program, Even Start Family Literacy program, Outagamie County Early Childhood Intervention program, and the Appleton Area School District 4K program are now housed at the 54,000 sq. ft. facility at 313 S. State St. in Appleton.

Hoffman Planning, Design & Construction, Inc. led the renovation of the former elementary school, which saw all classrooms updated with new windows and child-size appropriate bathrooms and some classrooms transformed into office space. The project also included adding an elevator and complete sprinkler system, replacing windows and the HVAC system with energy-efficient models, addressing security points, central access to the facility and code issues, installing a new, high-end fiber optics line, and new carpet and paint.

“We are excited to help continue the 150 years of education on the St. Mary campus with the development of the Community Early Learning Center,” said Todd Dvorak, project architect for Hoffman. “Our team improved the 54,000 square foot facility by providing accessibility to all floors, updating the mechanical systems, and creating more dynamic spaces to better serve the needs of young children and their families in the Fox Valley Communities.”

With the completion of the $2 million project, the facility will accommodate approximately 275 children and 105 full and part time staff.

“Keeping the building in the education realm was very important to our parish,” said Brian Dresang, business administrator for St. Mary Parish. “The community will reap great rewards by having these programs under one roof. Hoffman understood our goals and worked with us to develop and implement a plan that worked.”
