Wisconsin Historic Sites and Museums Invite Visitors to “Come Fly A Kite” in May and June

To celebrate the arrival of spring, the Wisconsin Historical Society’s historic sites and museums invite visitors to “Come Fly a Kite” at their locations all around Wisconsin in May and June. The sites will provide the materials for making, decorating and flying the kites.

Old World Wisconsin, just south of Eagle in Waukesha County, will kick off the kite campaign during its first “Spring Into the Past” event on Saturday and Sunday, May 3-4. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

Wade House in Greenbush, Sheboygan County, will be flying kites during its “At Work and at Play” event on Saturday and Sunday, May 17-18. The site is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

In Madison, at the Wisconsin Historical Museum, kite decorating will take place during its “International Museum Day” event on Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Pendarvis in Mineral Point, Stonefield in Cassville, H.H. Bennett Studio in Wisconsin Dells, Villa Louis in Prairie du Chien, Madeline Island Museum in La Pointe and Black Point Estate in Lake Geneva will all celebrate spring with kite-flying programs and activities on Sunday, June 8. H.H. Bennett Studio, Stonefield and Madeline Island Museum will all offer reduced admission on June 8 in conjunction with their “Visitor Appreciation Day” events.

Circus World in Baraboo will offer a different twist in its kite-flying event during its “Circus Heritage Weekend” on Saturday and Sunday, May 17-18. The circus museum and performance venue will host troupes of Boy Scouts who will create their own troupe kites. The event begins at 2:30 p.m both days in historic “Ringlingville,” site of the Ringling Bros. Circus winter quarters.
