JANESVILLE, WI – Blackhawk Technical College is going to push back the start of this year’s summer school session by a week in order to expand opportunities for students graduating from high school this year to attend classes and attain college credit.

The move also is intended to assist students who already are four-year private and public college students and are looking to take summer classes to obtain credits that will transfer to their schools.

Many classes, especially those in the General Education, Criminal Justice and Business programs, now will begin on Monday, June 9.

The summer school course listings are viewable on the BTC website (blackhawk.edu). The registration schedule is as follows:

April 28: Veterans.

April 29: Special need students (AM); continuing students ready to graduate (PM).

April 30: Continuing declared students

May 1: New admitted students.

May 6: EMT, Nursing Assistant, continuing undeclared students.

May 9: Open registration.

BTC officials made the date change because they want to minimize school conflicts for high school students, who normally finish school in the first week of June. These students now will be eligible to earn college credits and transfer them to other schools. BTC officials found that in the past the start of summer school often was in conflict with the end of the regular school year schedule for high school students.

BTC offers these graduated high school students a jump start on their college careers. One example of the advantages can be found in this story that details how a Monroe High School graduate earned nine credits during a BTC summer school session before beginning her college career at UW-Platteville.
