MADISON—Governor Jim Doyle today announced that the Town of Florence, Florence County has received a $280,950 grant to help the town to upgrade its sewer and water systems.

“Maintaining public resources is critical to moving our economy forward,” Governor Doyle said. “I am pleased to support the Town of Florence and its work to ensure that Wisconsin is a great place to live and work.”

The Town of Florence will install new water mains and sewer lines at Pewaubic and Koman Streets. The roadway surfaces of these streets will also be reconstructed, and sidewalks will be added to ensure safety for pedestrians. The new water mains and sewer lines will provide adequate fire protection for the residents and also prevent backups. Total project cost is $928,500.

The funding comes from the Community Development Block Grant-Public Facilities (CDBG-PF) program at the Wisconsin Department of Commerce. CDBG-PF grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the provision of community infrastructure, the expansion of tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtowns.
