University demonstrates appreciation through scholarship programs and recognizes local military, veterans and their families on Veterans Day

MILWAUKEE, Nov. 10, 2010 – University of Phoenix, the largest private university in North America, recognizes and appreciates the personal sacrifices made by active duty military members, veterans and their families. Through on-campus courses and online courses that can be taken anywhere in the world, University of Phoenix offers flexibility in education to help military personnel and other busy adults reach their educational goals.

In honor of Veteran’s Day, University of Phoenix and AMVETS, a vocal advocate for veterans’ education, are awarding $350,000 through fifty $7,000 scholarships to active duty service members, veterans and eligible family members to pursue a degree through University of Phoenix. AMVETS partnered with University of Phoenix in 2007, offering 25 scholarships to eligible veterans and family members. Since 2007 University of Phoenix has doubled its commitment in an effort to help more veterans and family members earn a college degree and increased the value of each award from $4,000 to $7,000.

“University of Phoenix is committed to supporting the military by helping active members, veterans and their families gain access to their educational goals,” said Garland Williams, Associate Regional Vice President for the University of Phoenix Military Division. “Through the University of Phoenix AMVETS Scholarship, we are providing educational opportunities to military members, veterans and their families in our local communities.”

“University of Phoenix is an excellent resource for veterans and active service members to receive an education that fits into their unique schedules” said Dave Steffen, campus director, University of Phoenix Milwaukee Campus. “With access to campus locations and online classes, military members and their families can tailor their course schedules to fit their busy lives so they can earn a degree while continuing their commitment to serving our nation and their families.”

Tens-of-thousands of active-duty military, veterans and their spouses have graduated from University of Phoenix associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs worldwide.
