DATCP: Search opens for 64th Alice in Dairyland and host county for 2013 finals

MADISON – Applications are open for the 64th Alice in Dairyland and for a Wisconsin county to host the 2013 Finals.

Applications are now available for candidates interested in being considered for the 64th Alice in Dairyland position to be named in Waushara County during the finals May 12-14.

“Alice in Dairyland brings our state’s $59 billion agriculture industry into the daily lives of Wisconsinites,” says Christine Lindner, 63rd Alice in Dairyland. “As an agri-marketer, communicator, educator and the state’s agricultural ambassador she encourages residents to buy Wisconsin products and to learn more about how their food was produced.”

Alice in Dairyland is a one-year, full-time contract position with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. The 64th Alice in Dairyland will begin work June 1st and during her year will travel about 40,000 miles as a spokesperson for Wisconsin’s food, fiber, and biofuel industries. Additionally, she will present hundreds of speeches, provide more than 100 media interviews, and visit thousands of students.

Applicants must be Wisconsin residents and at least 21 years of age by June 1. The Alice in Dairyland position is steeped in tradition, requiring the ability to discuss Wisconsin’s agricultural commodities, products, and issues facing agriculture in both rural and urban settings with public speaking skills being essential. Applicants must possess a passion for agriculture. Due to the professional demands of this position, at least three years of education, training, or experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or a combination of these is required. Experience in planning and executing public relations, marketing and/or media campaigns is a plus.

This contract position receives a $40,000 annual salary. The position also includes holiday, vacation and sick leave; reimbursement for professional travel expenses and health insurance premium compensation up to $450/mo.

Host for 2013 Alice in Dairyland Finals

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection is now accepting bids for a Wisconsin county to host the Alice in Dairyland finals in May 2013, which will mark the selection of the state’s 66th Alice in Dairyland. Local economic development groups, county agriculture organizations and community visitor bureaus are encouraged to learn more about this opportunity to showcase agriculture in their hometown. Over the history of the selection, 36 different counties around the state have held this event.

Interested counties will be asked to provide details of resources available in their county and to address their interest for hosting the event.
