MADISON—Governor Jim Doyle today announced a $121,000 grant for the Village of Cashton, Monroe County, to help the village construct an addition to its community center in order to house a senior citizen facility.

“These kinds of investments in our communities are really what Wisconsin is all about,” Governor Doyle said. “The community center in Cashton is an asset to this community. It will make a real, lasting improvement in people’s lives. I thank all who have worked to make this project possible.”

The Village of Cashton will update and construct at 2,300-sq.-ft. addition to its community center. The addition will house a senior citizen facility, which will provide counseling, legal services, health programs, and activities and will comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Heating, air conditioning, and electrical services will also be updated at the community center. Total project cost is $387,500.

The funding comes from the Community Development Block Grant-Public Facilities (CDBG-PF) program at the Wisconsin Department of Commerce. CDBG-PF grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the provision of community infrastructure, the expansion of tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtowns.
