Madison…. The State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Evers, recently named the WEA Trust a “2010 Friend of Education.” The “Friend of Education” is the Department of Public Instruction’s (DPI) highest award for promoting public education in the state of Wisconsin.

The recognition of the Trust was part of the State Superintendent’s Annual State of Education speech in the State Capitol rotunda on Thursday, September 16, 2010.

Mark Moody, President and CEO of the WEA Trust, stated, “This recognition is a distinct honor of the collaborative work the Trust has done with DPI over the years—which is more directly the result of the Trust’s highly successful co-sponsorship of the Movin’ and Munchin’ program and support of DPI’s anti-bullying curriculum, ‘Time to Act—Time to React.’”

Moody went on to say, “Our commitment to Wisconsin’s public schools and their employees is essential to every decision we make at the Trust. The Trust’s sponsorship of programs that make schools safer, and that help kids and employees become healthier, creates a better educational environment. That is why we are so committed to such incredible programs—it is truly to help our members.”

The WEA Trust is a not-for-profit Madison-based insurer that provides health and other insurance programs to many Wisconsin public school employees. The Trust was also recently approved to be an option in the state health plan for the eastern part of the state.

The WEA Trust Health Plan recently received the top score in Wisconsin and the second highest score in the United States for health plan rating, according to the 2009 results from the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, or CAHPS®, a national survey that included hundreds of health plans.
