Major organizations and institutions provide new opportunities for attendance at third Summit

MADISON – The Wisconsin Economic Summit Series sponsors and conveners have announced the availability of 15 scholarships per county to qualified applicants for the Moving Wisconsin Forward Summit on October 5 in Milwaukee.

Moving Wisconsin Forward is the third Summit of the 2010 Wisconsin Economic Summit Series. The work products of Summit I — a new economic strategy for Wisconsin — and Summit II — proposals for managing the impending state budget deficit — will be presented and discussed at the third Summit, which is dedicated to shaping the work from the first two Summits into a coherent set of recommendations for the new administration and legislature.

“We know that the $300 registration fee is too expensive for a number of people who would like to participate in the October Summit. The scholarship program is an effort to do what we can with limited resources to address this challenge.” said Jim Wood, president of Wood Communications Group — a co-sponsor of the Summit Series. “We want to make sure that people from around the state are able to attend the Summit, regardless of their financial availability.”

Summit sponsors and conveners are offering 7 registration scholarships per county, for all adults (age 19 and older) in the county, and 3 registrations, per county, for one K–12 student, one university/college student and one technical college student.

In addition, the founding partners of the Wisconsin Way (a summit convener) — Wisconsin Education Association Council; Wisconsin Counties Association; League of Wisconsin Municipalities; the Wisconsin REALTORS® Association; Wisconsin Transportation Builders Association and Transportation Development Association of Wisconsin — are matching the scholarship program in part and providing 5 registrations, per county. All scholarship winners will be selected randomly by category.

The scholarship application can be found at http://www.wiroundtable.org/summit/scholarship_app.asp and all applications must be received no later than September 17, 2010.

Hosted by the University of Wisconsin System, Competitive Wisconsin Inc., the Wisconsin Technology Council, the Wisconsin Way and the Wisconsin Higher Education Business Roundtable, the purpose of the Economic Summit Series is to provide Wisconsin’s next governor and legislature with a vision on how best to: 1) jumpstart Wisconsin’s economy, re-energizing both our ability to start and grow our businesses and create jobs for our citizens; and 2) address the challenges and opportunities facing Wisconsin in the 2011-13 state budget.

Gubernatorial candidates Tom Barrett, Mark Neumann and Scott Walker have appeared either live or via video at the first two Summits, and have all confirmed their attendance at the third Summit.

More detailed program information about each of the Summits and on-line registration opportunities are available at http://www.wiroundtable.org/summit.
