Madison, Wis. (August 30, 2010) – A record number of incoming freshmen have started their first full week of classes at Edgewood College. This year’s freshmen – the “Class of Community” – number 327 students, the most the College has ever welcomed to begin a new academic year.
“We’re pleased that students and their families continue to visit us on campus, meet with faculty, talk with current students, and realize this is the right fit for them,” said Christine Benedict, Director of Undergraduate Admissions. “These young people recognize the opportunity we offer to link what happens in the classroom with what’s happening in our world.”
Continuing the trend of recent years, fully ninety-five percent of these new students are receiving scholarships and grants, officials said. In all, the College will administer more than $4.4 million in scholarships and grants to the freshman class, another all-time high for the College.
“It’s important to know that we’re doing everything we can to be sure that an Edgewood College education is available for those who want to be a part of our learning community,” Benedict said. “We know that a college education is a major investment for most families. We work to be sure that for those families who choose Edgewood College, the dream of a college education can become reality.”
While Wisconsin students continue to comprise the majority of freshmen, the class of 2014 also includes students from Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, Georgia, and Colorado.
