MADISON– Governor Jim Doyle today announced that Clysmic Properties, LLC, Waukesha, Waukesha County, will receive a $400,000 Blight Elimination and Brownfield Redevelopment (BEBR) grant from the Department of Commerce (Commerce) for environmental remediation to support the construction of a dormitory.

“Brownfield grants are an excellent tool to help revitalize contaminated properties while creating opportunities for future construction projects and job growth,” Governor Doyle said. “I am pleased we could help Clysmic Properties, LLC meet the strong demand for student housing and return an under utilized property to productive use generating significant property tax revenue.”

Clysmic Properties, LLC, is a real estate development firm. It plans to construct a four-story dormitory with 231 beds to serve Carroll University. The facility will include 11,000 sq. ft. of retail space on the first floor. The project will involve the demolition of an existing commercial building. The new dormitory will be located adjacent to a dormitory the company constructed last year. The BEBR funds will be used for environmental remediation. The project will represent $11.5 million in total investment.

Commerce’s BEBR Program provides grant funds to municipalities, local development corporations, and the private sector to support assessment, remediation and return of contaminated lands to productive use. Brownfields are abandoned, idle, or underused industrial or commercial properties where redevelopment is hindered by real or perceived contamination.
